Turn X videos into text you can quote
Some of the most-shared moments online live as video posts on X: press conferences, earnings-call clips, interview snippets, product launches, sports reactions and viral rants. They spread fast, and the conversation around them depends on exactly what was said. But X doesn't give you a transcript, and auto-captions, when they appear at all, can't be copied.
PullSubtitle fixes that. Paste the link to any public post that contains a video and our AI speech recognition writes down the audio for you. The result is a clean block of text you can quote accurately, search, translate or turn into a thread. Next to it you'll see the post's author, text, date and, on paid plans, its views, likes, replies, reposts, quotes and bookmarks.
Because X doesn't expose a caption track, every X transcript on PullSubtitle is produced by AI. Clips up to two minutes are included in all plans for 1 credit; longer videos can be transcribed on paid plans with Long-video AI.
How to transcribe a video on X
- Find the post with the video on x.com or in the X app.
- Tap the share icon and choose Copy link. On desktop you can also copy the URL in the address bar.
- Paste the link above. PullSubtitle recognises x.com and twitter.com links, including mobile links.
- If the video runs longer than two minutes and you're on a paid plan, switch on Long-video AI.
- Press Get transcript and the text appears below.
The link needs to point at the specific post (it contains /status/ followed by a number). Profile links, Spaces and search pages aren't videos, so they won't work. If the video is inside a quote-post, open the original post and copy that link.
What you can do with an X video transcript
Quote people accurately
Misquotes travel faster than corrections. Working from a transcript means your quote-post, article or newsletter says exactly what the speaker said.
Write threads and summaries
Turn a ten-minute clip into a five-post thread with the key points, or paste the transcript into an AI assistant and ask for a summary in your own voice.
Monitor news and public statements
Communications teams, analysts and journalists transcribe statements from executives, politicians and organisations to track what was said and when. Batch mode on paid plans handles lists of posts in one run.
Add captions to clips you repost
Download SRT or VTT and add subtitles before you share a clip elsewhere. Most people scroll with the sound off, and captions dramatically increase how much of the video gets understood.
Translate for your audience
Copy the transcript into a translator to share the gist of a foreign-language clip with your followers, with a link to the original.
Post details and engagement stats
Each X result comes with the post's context:
- Every plan: author name and handle, profile link, the post text, publish time, the video thumbnail, duration and view count.
- Paid plans: likes, replies, reposts, bookmarks and quote count, the author's follower count, an engagement rate, and hashtags used in the post.
Export JSON or Markdown to keep this metadata attached to the transcript. When you're collecting clips for a report, it saves you from scrolling back to find who posted what, and when.
AI transcription: what to expect
Speech recognition is highly accurate for clear speech, and you can expect clean results for interviews, statements and talking-head clips. Accuracy drops when there's loud music, several people talking over each other, a noisy crowd or heavy compression on the audio.
A few things are worth knowing:
- Names and jargon may be spelled phonetically. A quick read-through fixes them.
- Timings — AI transcripts come back as text, so SRT and VTT exports use estimated timings spread across the video's length. They're a good starting point for subtitles.
- Language — the model transcribes the language being spoken. To get English from a Spanish clip, transcribe it and then translate the text.
- No speech, no charge — if a clip is all music or silence, the result is empty and doesn't use any credits.
Long videos on X
Many accounts can now post videos that run for many minutes, and some upload full interviews and keynotes. On PullSubtitle:
- Clips up to 2 minutes are included on every plan.
- Longer videos need Long-video AI, available on Starter and Pro. It costs 3 credits per started minute of video, taken from your monthly credits.
- Your credit balance is shown under the input box and on your balance page whenever you're signed in.
If you only need part of a long video, it's often cheaper to find a shorter clip of the moment you care about.
Tracking clips in batch
News moves fast on X, and you often need the words from several clips at once: every answer from a press briefing, all the highlight videos from a product launch, or each statement an organisation posted during a crisis. With a paid plan, switch on Batch and paste the post links one per line. Starter handles 10 links per run; Pro handles 50.
PullSubtitle transcribes them one after another and shows each post's title and word count as it finishes. Open any row to read, copy or export it. Posts without a video, or with no speech, are marked as empty and don't use credits.
For reporting, export each transcript as Markdown, which puts the author, handle, date and source link at the top of the file, or as JSON if you want to load the text and engagement numbers into a spreadsheet or database. Analysts often sort a batch by views or reposts to see which statements actually reached people, then read those transcripts first.
A note on reposted clips
The same video is often reposted by many accounts. If one copy won't transcribe, for example because the account went private, try another public post of the same clip or the original source. The transcript will be the same, and the engagement numbers will tell you which copy travelled furthest.
Privacy
You don't need an X account to use PullSubtitle and we never ask for your X login. We don't like, repost, reply or follow anything, and the author isn't notified. We don't keep the video file.
When you're signed in, transcripts are saved to your private history for your plan's retention period (3 days on Free, 30 days on Starter, 90 days on Pro), and you can delete any of them at any time. Please use transcripts responsibly: quote fairly, link to the original post and respect the creator's rights.
